20 May 2008 - Agency Staff to get Equal Rights
Tony Lloyd MP for Manchester Central said he was delighted that the Government is to give agency workers the same employment rights as permanent staff.
Tony Lloyd said, "There are 1.4 million agency workers in the UK. It is absolutely right that these workers have the same holiday and equal pay entitlement as permanent staff. For too long agency workers have been treated unfairly and this agreement will mean they have much stronger legal protection".
Ministers plan legislation in the autumn, subject to an EU directive being passed. The proposals will mean that agency staff will get holiday and equal pay entitlement after 12 weeks in their jobs.
