22 April 2009 - Tony supports Charlotte's Shining Star Campaign

Charlotte's Shining Star Launch Event took place on Saturday 18th April in Manchester. The event saw one thousand people gather their voice in song against Cervical Cancer. Charlotte, from Hulme, was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of 20 and is fighting to lower the start age of smear tests to help other young women, who currently dont get called for smear tests until they reach the age of 25.
Tony is pictured above at the launch event with Charlotte, Cllr Emily Lomax, and Cllr Mary Murphy.
Tony Lloyd is backing the campaign, and says Gordon Brown has promised to look at lowering the age of screening.
He said: "I am 100 per cent behind Charlotte's campaign. Her bravery shines out like a beacon.
"We want to make sure that her message is properly understood. We know screening works, it is just as important for young women and older women that these facilities are available not simply to put their minds at rest but to make sure that people get treatment when they need it."
