The Cranswick Square Residents’ Group in Moss Side has worked hard to build themselves a garden. The patch of land that lies behind Edith Avenue, Lloyd Street South, Driffield Street and Cranswick Street has now been re-named The Triangle. Funded by Adactus Housing Association and Manchester City Council the local residents have created a welcoming community space and wildlife haven.
The garden was officially opened on Thursday 26th May 2011. The event was attended by Tony Lloyd MP and local Labour Councillors Alistair Cox and Roy Walters.
Cranswick Street resident and project manager Phil Dodd said, “It’s amazing what the community can achieve, building the garden has allowed us to share our different skills, involve the younger ones and build a lasting legacy for Cranswick Square Residents. We have created a space where locals can come and sit, chat, socialise and get involved. The project has been instrumental in building our community – people now call their neighbours friends where before they didn’t even know each other’s names.”
Tony Lloyd said, “Cranswick Street gardens shows what can be achieved when the community gets together with their landlord and the council. What was once an eyesore and no go area is now a space for the community to enjoy”.
